Last week we did a quick overview of the major players in the mobile market, but it turns out we missed a fairly large. ZTE is hardly be regarded as a significant player in Europe, North America, but the report IDC shows that in 2010 they have shipped more cell phones than RIM globally.

The Chinese company registered a higher increase in the number of phones were sold last year than any of the major brands and was comfortably the fourth largest manufacturer worldwide. According to IDC, ZTE sold 51.8 million mobile phones in 2010 (as compared to only 26.7 million in 2009), which is 3 million more than what RIM has succeeded.

In the UK alone, ZTE some good 4 million phones in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Send Blackberry down to fifth place globally, while Apple leaves the big 5 fully (for now, at least). Sony Ericsson, Motorola and HTC shift to 6th, 6th and 8th place.

Some other interesting figures from IDC report includes the 18.5% growth as mobile phone handset market globally for the year 2010. LG was the only company that had their shipments fall on year, even in autumn was a meager 1 percent.

However, we believe that the South Koreans will make up some lost ground with exciting devices like Optimus 2 X and Optimus Black just around the corner.

Meanwhile, Canalys published a study on their own, which reveals that the Android OS was the number 1 selling over the last three months. It scored an impressive 615% growth to 33.3 million units shipped and lost Symbian for leadership.

Canalys also showed that WP7 phones do better than some previous rumors suggested-3.1 million of them have already been shipped.

HTC report on the last quarter of 2010 is fresh out of the oven and it looks good for the Taiwanese company. In fact, the financial results exceeded HTC's own forecasts.

In Q4 of 2010 HTC delivery is a total of 9.1 million units, compared to the same period last year, an increase of 160%. The result is 3.57 billion USD worth of income. This is an impressive 153% more than last year's Q4.

HTC has really stepped up their game in 2010 and this shows in the annual balances. Transport smartphones doubled during 2010 to 24.6 million units, compared with 11.7 million in 2009. Revenue increased by 93% on year to $ 7 billion and for profit, the estimated at 1.3 billion dollars.

As a destination for 2011 will Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer focusing on its 4 G devices. LG announced today its report on how 2010 went to them and it is not good for the company's mobile phone division. To get back in the black zone for 2011, the South Koreans are planning to focus on their premium line of smartphones.

Overall, things haven t been so good for LG in Q4 2010. The company sold 2.96 billion dollars-units, an increase of 12 percent compared with the third quarter of 2010, but there is still some 15.2 per cent lower than revenues from mobile phones in scored in the fourth quarter of 2009. What is worse, is LG still in the red zone with a loss of $ 232 million.

The total shipment of phones has increased by 8% in the third quarter of 2010 with a total of 30.6 million units in Q4. This is 10% lower than the number of units for the same quarter of 2009.

In North America, Europe and Korea LG recons increase in sales due to Optimus-a, which seems to do quite well for the company. We are sure things would pick up with the launch of Optimus 2 X and possibly, LG Optimus black and Optimus 3D for Q1.

Go back out of a quarter, results for LG 2010 annual don appearance pink either. For 2010, LG total revenue from mobile phones to € 11.4 billion dollars, which is a whopping 24,9% decline in 2009.

We are pleased with LG will step up its game in 2011 because HTC has passed them on the basis of total handset revenue in the fourth quarter of 2011 by a good half a billion u.s. dollars.
